International Symposium Explores State-Terror as a Tool for Regime Change

8 May 2024: Organized by JUST, the International Movement for a Just World, an upcoming international symposium titled “State-Terror as a Form of Regime Change” is poised to unravel the complexities of state-driven terror and its profound impact on global political landscapes. Scheduled for the 18th of May at 5:00 pm Malaysia time, the symposium promises to be an enlightening exploration into this pressing issue.

Distinguished speakers include Max Blumenthal, editor of The Grayzone website and acclaimed author of “Republican Gomorrah” and “Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel,” alongside historian and professor Ilan Pappé, celebrated for his seminal works such as “Ten Myths About Israel” and “The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine.” Together, they will delve into the intricate mechanisms of state-driven terror and its far-reaching implications for political transformation.

Dr. Nida Arif, an esteemed academic hailing from Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi, India, will deliver introductory remarks, drawing on her comprehensive understanding of the historical and contemporary dimensions of state-sponsored terrorism. Her doctoral thesis, titled “Literature of Resistance: A Study of Ghassan Kanafani’s Selected Works,” underscores her scholarly expertise and adds depth to her insights.

Moderating the discussions will be Prof. Junaid S. Ahmad, Director of the Center for the Study of Islam and Decoloniality in Islamabad. Prof. Ahmad’s expertise, evidenced by his doctoral thesis on the “Literature of Resistance,” will guide the conversation towards critical analysis and constructive dialogue.

The symposium’s primary objective is to foster a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted nature of state-terrorism, spanning from its manifestations in conflict zones like Gaza to its strategic deployment as a tool of dominance within the broader context of the War on Terror. By convening leading voices in academia and activism, the event seeks to stimulate thoughtful discourse and catalyze actionable insights towards the realization of a more equitable world.

Registration for the symposium is open to scholars, activists, and concerned citizens alike, inviting them to participate in this timely examination of state-terrorism and its profound ramifications on global politics.
