New Delhi: Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Hasan has spoken out after being subjected to hate speech and Islamophobic slurs during her visit to Chapaur village in Saharanpur. Members of the Hindu Suraksha Seva Sangh called her a “mulli” and a “terrorist” as she addressed a gathering following the vandalism of a Shiv temple.
Iqra Hasan’s calm yet firm response stood in stark contrast to the aggression she faced. She said the insults were not only directed at her but at every woman in society. “I will not do politics under pressure. Those who try to divide society will not be spared,” she said, addressing the crowd.
She reminded the villagers that people from all religions and castes had voted for her. “If someone dislikes my work, they can vote me out after five years. But am I not your daughter?” she asked. Despite being advised by officials not to visit Chapaur for safety reasons, the Kairana MP insisted on going. “This is my area. Why shouldn’t I go? I am here to speak for the people,” she said.
The incident reflects a disturbing rise in intolerance faced by Muslim politicians, echoing earlier abuses directed at MP Kunwar Danish Ali. Yet, Iqra Hasan’s resilience sends a clear message of defiance and dignity. “My religion and my responsibilities teach me to take everyone along,” she said, reaffirming her commitment to inclusive politics.
