Tehran: Iran has claimed that it shot down a United States F/A-18 fighter jet near Chabahar, releasing a video as evidence, while the United States has firmly rejected the claim.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the aircraft was struck using an advanced air defence system. According to the statement, the incident took place near Chabahar, a coastal location along the Gulf of Oman. The video released by Iranian authorities has circulated widely on social media, with officials presenting it as proof of the strike.
The United States Central Command responded by denying the claim. It stated that no American fighter aircraft had been shot down by Iran. The response described the Iranian claim as false and misleading. US officials did not provide further operational details regarding the video.
The reported incident comes at a time when tensions continue to rise due to ongoing air strikes, missile exchanges, and drone operations. Strategic locations across the region have gained attention as key points in the conflict. Chabahar’s position along major maritime routes adds to its importance in the current situation.
Authorities in both Iran and the United States have maintained their positions, with no confirmation from independent sources regarding the reported downing of the aircraft.
If the Iranian claim proves to be correct then it would imply that Iran too has a solid air defense system that is capable of guarding its skies and this will send a message of deterrence to its enemies.
