Tehran— In the wake of escalating tensions in the Middle East, Iran has officially called for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to address what it calls “heinous attacks and illegal use of force” by the United States, as per a report by the Iran Press.
Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, sent a formal letter—obtained by the Associated Press—urging the UN’s most powerful body to “take all necessary measures” to hold the United States accountable under international law and the United Nations Charter.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns and denounces in the strongest possible terms these unprovoked and premeditated acts of aggression,” the letter stated. It further highlighted that the US strikes came after a “large-scale military attack” by the Israeli regime on June 13 targeting Iran’s peaceful nuclear sites and facilities.
The diplomatic escalation underscores the growing threat of a broader regional conflict, following intensified military actions involving Iran, Israel, and now direct US intervention. Tehran’s appeal to the UN comes amid global concern over rising instability in the region.
UN officials have yet to comment on whether the Security Council will convene an emergency session in response to Iran’s request.
