Kozhikode: The Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad (popularly known as A.P. Ustad), has strongly appealed for global unity and India’s active diplomatic intervention to halt the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, warning of the grave repercussions the war could have worldwide, reported the Varta Bharati.
Speaking during a special peace prayer gathering at the Markaz campus, Sheikh Abubakr emphasized the urgent need to resist violence and prevent further escalation. He condemned the Israeli government’s actions in West Asia, labeling them as inhumane and a threat to global peace. “The expansion of war will not only devastate the region but will also impact the world, including India,” he cautioned.
Criticizing Israel’s disregard for international norms and humanitarian principles, he said, “It is shameful for the modern world to remain silent when innocent lives are being destroyed.”
He drew attention to the direct impact on India, highlighting that millions of Indian expatriates reside in West Asia. “Any instability in the region puts their safety and livelihoods at risk. Therefore, India has a direct and pressing interest in restoring peace,” he noted.
Calling for responsible diplomacy, the Grand Mufti said India should leverage its strong relations with both Israel and Iran to facilitate dialogue. “India holds a unique position and must use its influence to mediate peace talks,” he urged.
He also stressed the need for India to actively support humanitarian efforts, particularly in Gaza, where the situation remains dire for civilians suffering from relentless violence.
