Iran Urges India to Condemn Israeli Aggression, Cites Breach of International Law

New Delhi : Iran has called on India and other nations in the Global South to strongly denounce Israel’s recent military actions against it, terming the attacks a clear “violation of international law.” This call was made by Mohammad Javad Hosseini, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi, during a media briefing on Friday, reported the Economic Times.
Hosseini emphasized that the Israeli strikes on Iranian territory constitute an assault on a sovereign nation and should be condemned globally, regardless of bilateral ties.
“We believe every country, including India, should condemn these actions—not just due to relations with Iran, but because they violate global norms,” he stated. He added that India, as a leading voice of the Global South, bears the moral responsibility to uphold international legal standards.
The diplomat also addressed regional tensions involving Pakistan, especially in light of recent speculation over the possible use of Pakistani military bases by the U.S. in a future offensive against Tehran. He expressed hope that Pakistan would avoid any moves that might undermine Iran’s interests.
When asked about Iran’s potential decision to close the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 30% of the world’s oil supply flows, Hosseini did not offer a definitive answer. He said several options remain on the table, but any action would depend on how the situation unfolds.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), even a temporary disruption of traffic through the Strait would have severe repercussions on global oil markets.
On the issue of the India-Iran partnership via the Chabahar port, Hosseini cautioned that escalating tensions could have broad consequences. “It’s not just about Chabahar; the entire region’s energy and commodities flow will be impacted if this conflict continues,” he warned. “It is in the best interest of all affected nations to act against this aggression to protect economic stability.”
The recent escalation in hostilities between Israel and Iran has seen both sides launch numerous drones and missiles, raising fears of a broader regional conflict with global economic implications.
