New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind President Syed Sadatullah Husaini has welcomed the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, calling it a necessary pause after weeks of rising tensions and civilian harm.
In a statement, Husaini said the halt in hostilities has reduced immediate risks to civilian lives and prevented further damage to essential infrastructure. He noted that recent military actions led to casualties and raised concerns under international humanitarian law. He urged all parties to use this pause to begin serious dialogue.
Husaini stressed that a temporary ceasefire does not resolve the conflict. He called for a complete end to aggression, respect for national sovereignty, and accountability for violations of international law. He said lasting peace requires clear commitment from all sides.
He highlighted the wider impact of the conflict, including disruptions to global energy supplies. He said the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has eased pressure on economies, including India. He warned that the ceasefire remains fragile and requires careful implementation.
Husaini also raised concern over ongoing hostilities in Lebanon. He said partial ceasefires risk prolonging instability and human suffering. He criticised targeted attacks on individuals, calling them a violation of basic humanitarian principles.
He said the conflict shows the limits of military force in resolving political disputes. He urged all parties to engage in sincere negotiations and follow international law. He also called on the Government of India to take a proactive role in supporting peace efforts and ensuring accountability.
