Iran Vows Retaliation: Military to Decide ‘Timing and Scale’ of Response to US Strikes

United Nations: In a fiery address to the UN Security Council, Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani declared that the United States has “destroyed diplomacy” by launching airstrikes on three of Iran’s nuclear facilities. He emphasized that Iran’s military would determine the “timing, nature, and scale” of the country’s proportional response, as per a report by the New Indian Express.
The emergency meeting was convened after the US carried out attacks on Iranian nuclear infrastructure, triggering heightened tensions in the region.
“Iran had repeatedly warned the warmongering US regime to refrain from stumbling into this quagmire,” Iravani said. He described the strikes as a “clear and flagrant breach of international law” and signaled Tehran’s intention to act decisively.
The ambassador further accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of manipulating US foreign policy by pressuring President Donald Trump into serving Western interests, thus dragging America into “another costly and baseless war.”
Referring to recent diplomatic efforts by Iran’s foreign minister, Iravani lamented that just as discussions were being held with European counterparts, the US chose to dismantle those efforts by resorting to military aggression. “How can Iran return to negotiations it never left?” he asked, underlining Tehran’s stance that it had always remained committed to dialogue.
Meanwhile, Iranian courts have sentenced four individuals to death over charges of espionage for Israel, further stoking regional tensions.
The situation remains fluid, with analysts warning that any escalation may trigger a wider conflict in the Middle East.
