New Delhi, Aug 7 2024: Iran’s Ambassador to India, Iraj Elahi, has called on India to take a more active role in resolving the ongoing West Asia crisis, given its significant diplomatic ties with both Israel and Palestine. Speaking amid escalating violence between Israel, Hamas, and Hezbollah, Elahi emphasized India’s strategic importance and historical support for Palestine, reported the Times of India.
Elahi highlighted India’s influential position due to its strong relationships with both Israel and Palestine, suggesting that India could use its diplomatic leverage to promote peace and halt the ongoing violence in Gaza. He noted that India has maintained good diplomatic relations with Israel and has historically supported the Palestinian cause through its non-aligned movement.
“Since the beginning of the tragic events and crimes of Israel in Gaza, I repeatedly mentioned that India is an important country, a big power, and influential in the international community. Besides, it has good relations with Israel and Iran, and as a founder of the non-aligned movement, it has supported the Palestinian cause in the history of the region,” said Elahi in an interview with ANI.
Elahi urged India to convince Israel to stop the ongoing violence and genocide in Gaza, emphasizing the potential for collaboration between Iran and India in maintaining regional peace. This appeal follows the ongoing genocide in Gaza perpetrated by Israel.
The Iranian envoy’s appeal underscores the urgent need for diplomatic intervention and the potential role India can play in fostering peace in West Asia, leveraging its unique position and historical ties in the region.
