Tehran (IRNA) – In a major development, Major General Hossein Salami, the Chief Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), along with several other prominent military and civilian figures, has been assassinated in a series of Israeli airstrikes that struck Tehran and nearby areas, reported the NBC.
According to a report released Friday morning by the Tasnim news agency, Major General Salami was killed in an Israeli aerial assault carried out overnight.
In addition to Salami, the strikes claimed the lives of notable nuclear scientists, including Mohammad-Mehdi Tehranchi, the president of Islamic Azad University, and Fereydoun Abbasi, a former head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization.
Tasnim further reported that Major General Gholamali Rashid, Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Headquarters, was also assassinated in the same wave of attacks by Israeli forces.
The coordinated airstrikes not only targeted central Tehran but also extended to other cities and strategic sites around the capital.
