Istanbul: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced Wednesday that it launched ballistic missile attacks on two US military installations in Jordan, citing American strikes on Iranian territory as the reason for the retaliation.
The IRGC said it targeted a US Marine base in Jordan known as Camp Titin with ballistic missiles. It claimed numerous US soldiers were killed in the strike. The Corps said the attack was carried out in direct response to a US strike on a residence in the city of Sirik, in Iran’s Hormozgan Province, which it said was hosting a wedding ceremony at the time.
In a separate statement, the IRGC announced a heavy ballistic missile attack on hangars at Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan. It said the hangars housed US RQ-4 and MQ-9 long-range drones. The Corps claimed several drones were destroyed, US pilots and technical personnel were killed, and multiple military facilities caught fire.
The US military’s Central Command confirmed it had launched strikes against IRGC targets inside Iran. Following that announcement, Iranian media reported explosions in several locations, including Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Chabahar, and Konarak.
Iranian state television also reported that Jiroft Airport in Kerman Province was targeted in the US strikes.
Ahmad Nafisi, the deputy governor of Hormozgan Province, said initial assessments indicated at least four people were killed and 50 injured after the US allegedly struck the wedding ceremony in Sirik.
The exchange of strikes marks a sharp escalation between Washington and Tehran. The IRGC framed its attacks on Jordan as a proportionate military response to civilian casualties on Iranian soil. The US military’s confirmation of strikes against IRGC positions points to a direct and active confrontation between the two sides across the region.
