Hyderabad, June 14: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has voiced concern over growing attacks on Muslims in different parts of the country and asked whether Sangh Parivar was taking revenge against Muslims.
In a social media post, the Hyderabad MP referred to incidents of violence against Muslims in many parts of the country after the Lok Sabha election results.
“Two Maulanas were murdered in Uttar Pradesh, Muslim houses were bulldozed in Akbarnagar, two Muslims were lynched in Chhattisgarh. Is the Sangh Parivar taking revenge against Muslims?” asked Owaisi, who was re-elected from Hyderabad for a fifth consecutive term.
The AIMIM chief was apparently asking if Sangh Parivar was taking revenge for the BJP’s failure to secure a majority.
The saffron party failed to get a majority in Lok Sabha on its own and had to take support of parties like Jana Dal (United) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to form the government.
The BJP suffered a huge setback in Uttar Pradesh, which is currently ruled by the party. In a big shock, the party lost Faizabad seat, home to Ayodhya, where Ram temple was built on the site of the demolished Babri Masjid. The BJP sought votes across the country on the Ram temple.
Imams of two mosques in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad and Shamli were killed on June 11.
The Imam of a mosque was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Bhensia Village of Moradabad district. The assailants, apparently known to the deceased, first called him out of the mosque and then shot him dead from point-blank range.
Maulana Akram was a resident of Rampur district but was living in Bhensia Village for the last 15 years and was working in the local mosque. His body was discovered meters away from his house by residents of the area after he failed to appear for fajr prayers on the day.
In the second case, from Shamli, the body of the Muslim leader was found beheaded in the jungle on Tuesday afternoon. However, the deceased’s son had been arrested by the police for interrogation and as an accused in the case.
Asaduddin Owaisi, in his tweet, also referred to the ongoing demolitions of houses in Akbar Nagar of Lucknow since December last year. Several houses dubbed as illegal were demolished. This has left the Muslims in despair. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has demolished many shops and houses.
Two Muslim men were found dead after allegedly being chased by cow vigilantes while transporting cattle in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district on May 7. Bodies of Guddu Khan (35) and Chand Miya Khan (23) were found lying below the rocks while the third person Saddam Qureshi (23) was critically injured.
