ISMAT Hosts Gratitude Workshop and Significance of Muharram Talk

Port Blair, July 9: The Islander’s Social Movement for Awareness & Training (ISMAT) in Port Blair organized a Gratitude Workshop along with a talk on the significance of Muharram at J Hotel, Aberdeen Bazaar here Saturday. Mrs. Shireen Jadwet, President of ISMAT, welcomed the gathering and introduced the organization. Mrs. Sajida Zubair, ISMAT member, provided an in-depth explanation of the Islamic calendar, highlighting the significance and sanctity of Muharram, the first month of the lunar calendar.

ISMAT, established in 2004 by a group of Muslim women to safeguard the peace and harmony of the islands, is a women’s initiative aimed at bringing qualitative change to society, particularly for women and children. It promotes various talents for societal betterment. ISMAT, which stands for chastity, represents the first Muslim women’s voluntary non-governmental and non-political organization in the islands. It has been conducting personality development camps, interschool competitions, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, and lectures to achieve its goals.

The event included an interactive session on gratitude conducted by Hina Hakim, ISMAT member and former Copy Editor of PositiveDay- Surat, who emphasized the importance of journaling emotions and keeping a record of daily blessings received from the Creator. She highlighted the significance of gratitude in Islam and encouraged believers to cultivate it as a habit.

Additionally, a ‘Gratitude’ game was organized for the participants, followed by the ‘Dua of the Day’ led by ISMAT member Nahida Nasreen. The vote of thanks was proposed by Rashida Peer, Secretary of ISMAT. Elegantly anchored by Asma Khan, the workshop saw participation from over 70 women.
