Gaza City – On Nakba Day, a solemn occasion marking the forced displacement of Palestinians in 1948, Israel unleashed a new wave of deadly assaults across Gaza, killing at least 136 people since dawn on Thursday, reported the Al Jazeera.
The attacks come as Gaza reels under a crippling famine, the result of Israel’s total blockade of aid since March. With no access to food, water, or medical supplies, the humanitarian crisis deepens by the day.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the overall death toll from Israel’s ongoing war has climbed to at least 53,010, with 119,919 injured. The Government Media Office puts the actual death toll at over 61,700, factoring in thousands still buried under rubble and presumed dead.
The southern city of Khan Younis saw particularly heavy bombardment overnight and early Thursday, with at least 61 people killed. In the north, a strike on the al-Tawbah medical clinic in Jabalia killed 15 people and left many wounded, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported.
Israeli forces also launched strikes on three hospitals: al-Awda Hospital in Jabalia, the Indonesian Hospital in Khan Younis, and the European Hospital, further crippling Gaza’s collapsing healthcare system.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell strongly condemned the escalating child death toll, noting that nearly 50 children were killed in just the past two days. “More than one million children in Gaza are at risk of starvation. They are deprived of food, water and medicine,” she said, urging all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law.
Despite international outrage, the bombardment of Gaza continues with no pause, turning Nakba Day into yet another reminder of the suffering and dispossession of the Palestinian people.
