Israeli airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of 101 Palestinians following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, according to official reports on Friday, reports the Al Jazeera.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defence service, revealed that the fatalities include 31 women and 27 children. The casualties are spread across Gaza’s northern and southern regions, with 82 deaths recorded in the northern governorates, 16 in the south (14 in Khan Younis and two in Rafah), and five in the Central Governorate.
The ongoing attacks have also injured over 264 people, with numbers expected to rise as violence continues.
The ceasefire agreement, announced on Wednesday by Qatar, aims to end over 15 months of Israeli military aggression on Gaza. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani confirmed the deal, which is set to take effect on Sunday. The three-phase truce includes a prisoner exchange and a commitment to sustained peace, eventually leading to the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Since October 7, 2023, Gaza’s health authorities report that nearly 46,800 Palestinians – predominantly women and children – have been killed, while over 110,000 have been injured in what is described as a genocidal war. The conflict has left more than 11,000 individuals missing, causing one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern history.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
