New Delhi, Dec. 19: The Chief Editor of Radiance Viewsweekly, Mr. Ejaz Ahmed Aslam has called for indicting Israel for war crimes for killing about 100 journalists in Gaza.
In a statement to the media, he said, “As a media publication dedicated to the cause of upholding justice and the rights of the oppressed, we are highly disturbed and utterly condemn the killing of 97 journalists in Gaza by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). Israel is trying to extinguish the truth about the genocidal war on Palestinians in Gaza by targeting journalists and media organizations. The Gaza-Israel war has been the deadliest conflict for journalists since 1992. It has been nearly two months and a half since the war on Gaza began, and the rate of fatalities is “more than one journalist killed per day”. Many journalists were killed while on duty, covering the developments happening in Gaza. These killings must stop immediately, and the international community and the United Nations must act fast.”
Mr. Aslam continued, “Many journalists have died in airstrikes on their homes, most of them killed along with their children and families. There is irrefutable evidence that journalists were targeted, harassed, beaten, and threatened by the IDF. This is a clear violation of the principles of all UN General Assembly and Human Rights Council resolutions on the safety of journalists and the protection of civilians in armed conflict, including the United Nations Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists. We believe this purposeful targeting and killing of journalists amounts to serious war crimes for which the Israeli political and military leadership must be tried in the International Criminal Court (ICC).”
We urge the Press Club of India, Press Guild of India, and other journalist bodies in India to take serious note of this flagrant violation of the rights of journalists and the killing of 97 journalists in Gaza, and register a protest.
