The Health Ministry in Gaza reported on Friday evening that the Israeli military entered Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, allegedly firing shots and conducting searches inside the facility where approximately 600 people, including patients, staff, and visitors, were present, reports Al Jazeera.
According to a statement by the Health Ministry, the Israeli army’s incursion disrupted hospital operations, resulting in the tragic deaths of two children in the intensive care unit. The attack also led to the destruction of three ambulances, a transport vehicle, and a power generator essential for the hospital’s functioning.
The Health Ministry urged humanitarian organisations to intervene immediately, calling for protection and provision of basic needs for those sheltering within the hospital.
Reports also indicated that the Israeli army detained several Palestinians evacuated from the hospital, forcing them to gather outdoors in cold weather with minimal clothing.
The attack follows earlier Israeli military operations in northern Gaza, which the army stated were intended to prevent Hamas from regaining control. However, Palestinians claim Israel’s actions aim to occupy the area and displace its residents.
Since the renewed hostilities last October, more than 42,800 people, primarily women and children, have been killed in Gaza, with over 100,500 wounded, according to health authorities. Israel now faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza amid continued calls from the United Nations for an immediate ceasefire.
