In a historic move, two major Israeli rights groups—B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights Israel—have publicly accused the Israeli government of genocide in Gaza. Their statements mark an unprecedented internal rebuke as the war enters its 22nd month.
The groups say the war is not a tragic result of conflict. Instead, they call it a deliberate strategy to destroy Palestinian life, identity, and infrastructure.
B’Tselem, based in Tel Aviv, says the war has led to mass killings, the creation of unlivable conditions, and the forcible displacement of nearly all residents. They classify these actions as ethnic cleansing.
They added that the abuse of prisoners, the destruction of refugee camps, and the wiping out of cultural and educational institutions are attacks on both Gaza’s infrastructure and Palestinian identity.
The group also condemned Western powers—especially the United States and European countries. They accused them of enabling the destruction through military, diplomatic, and financial aid.
Physicians for Human Rights Israel focused on the health crisis. They reported that at least 85 children have died of starvation. About 92% of infants between 6 months and 2 years are malnourished.
They described the siege as a planned attempt to destroy the basic conditions for life.
They added, “Even if the war stopped now, deaths would continue.” The destruction of Gaza’s health and food systems will cause ongoing, preventable deaths. “This is not collateral damage. This is genocide.”
B’Tselem also warned that this mindset may be used in other occupied areas. They called on Israeli citizens and the international community to act urgently.
The Gaza Health Ministry estimates nearly 60,000 deaths since the war began. Millions have been displaced, and famine is looming.
Despite Israeli claims of allowing aid during “tactical pauses,” there are reports of attacks on civilians seeking relief.
Both organisations demand immediate international action. They label the situation as genocide with global complicity.
