Israeli Strike on Gaza School-Turned-Shelter Kills 17, Including Child

In yet another tragic development in the ongoing war on Gaza, Israeli forces bombed a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City, igniting a fire that claimed the lives of at least 17 people, including a child who reportedly burned to death, reported the Al Jazeera.

This attack follows a day of relentless Israeli bombardment that killed at least 32 Palestinians and left the El Dorra Pediatric Hospital in Gaza City severely damaged. Rescue efforts across the Gaza Strip were also hampered after bulldozers used in operations were destroyed.

Despite international condemnation, Israeli airstrikes have continued to devastate civilian infrastructure, turning hospitals, schools, and shelters into rubble. The Gaza Government Media Office now estimates the death toll to have surpassed 61,700, with thousands still missing and presumed dead under the debris. The Health Ministry reports 51,266 confirmed deaths and over 116,991 injuries since the war began 18 months ago.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, stated that Doha continues to work alongside mediators to negotiate an end to the ongoing bloodshed.

In contrast, the Israeli death toll from the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led assault remains at 1,139, with over 200 people reportedly taken captive.
