Israeli Strikes Kill Over 65 in Gaza as Egypt Proposes New Ceasefire Deal

Deir Al-Balah, Gaza Strip : Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip have killed more than 65 Palestinians in the past 24 hours, including women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The intensified military operations have brought the death toll from the 17-month war to over 50,000, reported the Hindu.
The escalation follows Israel’s recent breach of a ceasefire with Hamas, leading to a renewed wave of air and ground assaults. In response to the worsening humanitarian crisis, Egypt has introduced a new ceasefire proposal aimed at halting the violence.
According to an Egyptian official, the plan includes Hamas releasing five living hostages—including an American-Israeli—in exchange for Israel allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza and observing a temporary weeks-long pause in fighting. Additionally, Israel would release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners as part of the deal.
A Hamas official confirmed that the group had “responded positively” to the proposal but did not provide further details. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the negotiations.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military admitted to mistakenly firing on a Red Cross office in Gaza. The military initially claimed its troops had identified a threat from Palestinian militants before opening fire but later acknowledged the assessment was incorrect. “It was later determined that the identification was false,” the Israeli military stated, adding that the incident would be reviewed. The Red Cross confirmed damage to its facility but reported no injuries among its staff.
