Over 200 Italian Jews have publicly denounced an alleged “ethnic cleansing” plan in Gaza, strongly opposing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for a U.S. takeover of the region. The appeal, published in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica on Wednesday, warns against the forced displacement of Palestinians and urges the Italian government to refrain from complicity in such actions.
The signatories, representing various backgrounds within the Italian Jewish community, condemned the ongoing violence carried out by the Israeli government and settlers in Gaza and the West Bank. They asserted that any resolution to the conflict must prioritize justice, human rights, and the dignity of all people in the region.
The initiative is led by two Jewish advocacy groups, Jewish Anti-racist Laboratory and Never Indifferent and Jewish Voices for Peace, both of which are committed to promoting a fair and sustainable peace in the Middle East. Their statement highlights the urgent need to oppose policies that contribute to displacement and suffering, reinforcing their stance against oppression and occupation.
The appeal reflects growing divisions within global Jewish communities regarding Israeli policies, with many advocating for a more just and humane approach to the Palestinian issue.
