Chennai, April 7: At an Iftar program organized by the Women’s Wing President Fathima Muzaffer MC, IUML National President Prof. K.M Kader Mohideen delivered a compelling speech, highlighting the importance of Muslim participation in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Iftar Meet was hosted by the Women’s League at Egmore Faiz Mahal here Friday, witnessed esteemed guests including Muslim League National President Prof. Khader Mohideen, former MP, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for HRCE Shekhar Babu, Vice Chairman of the Minority Welfare Board Iraianban Kuddoos, and members of the Wakf Board.
In her welcome address, Fatima Muzaffer, National President of the Women’s League and Councillor of Egmore Ward 61 of Chennai Corporation, emphasized the necessity for Muslim women to exercise their voting rights in the parliamentary elections. Stressing the significance of the upcoming election falling on April 19, she urged Muslim women not to abstain from voting, emphasizing their pivotal role in preserving India’s secular democratic values by supporting INDIA Alliance candidates.
Prof. Mohideen lauded the Women’s Wing for organizing the Iftar function and commended the substantial turnout of women. He underscored the importance of women’s participation in nation-building, particularly Muslim women contributing to social harmony.
Highlighting the significance of parliamentary elections in safeguarding democratic norms, Prof. Mohideen invoked the Islamic principle of civic duty, equating voting as the sixth obligation of Muslims alongside the five pillars of Islam. He emphasized that good governance benefiting all citizens, including minorities, is contingent upon fulfilling this democratic imperative.
Encouraging Muslim women to prioritize voting on April 19 as both a religious and national duty, Prof. Mohideen urged them to actively engage in campaigning and mobilizing others to participate in the electoral process. He reiterated that indifference is not an option, emphasizing the transformative power of fulfilling constitutional duties to shape the nation’s future.
The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over a thousand women, warmly welcomed by Women’s Wing leaders. As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the call for mandatory voting among Muslims echoes louder, resonating with the collective aim of upholding democratic principles and inclusive governance.
