Jabalpur BJP Leader Arrested for Forcing Assam Woman into Prostitution

Bhopal — A local leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been arrested in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly pushing a 32-year-old woman from Assam into prostitution. The victim, a resident of Guwahati, had travelled to Jabalpur in search of employment when the crime occurred.
According to police officials, the woman lodged a complaint at Gadha police station on June 1. In her statement, she accused the hotel owner—who is identified as a BJP functionary—and his associate of forcibly involving her in prostitution. She also alleged physical abuse and non-payment for her work, reported the Hindu.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. The BJP leader, who owns the hotel, has been taken into custody while his accomplice remains absconding.
Authorities are currently investigating the case further, and efforts are underway to apprehend the second accused. The incident has sparked criticism from various quarters, raising serious questions about the safety of women and the misuse of power by individuals in influential positions.
