Jagadguru’s Call to Scrap SC/ST Act Draws Sharp Reactions

New Delhi: Jagadguru Rambhadracharya’s remarks urging the repeal of the SC/ST Act have triggered strong debate. He said the Vedas do not mention Avarnas or Savarnas, and argued that caste-based reservation should end. He described caste categories as political inventions. His comments have led to concern among groups who rely on the Act for protection against violence and discrimination.

The SC/ST Act was enacted in 1989 to address targeted crimes against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. It created special courts, defined offences, and ensured relief and rehabilitation for victims. Dalit and Adivasi activists warn that removing these protections would expose vulnerable communities to greater risk.

Rambhadracharya also spoke about electoral politics. He predicted another victory for the ruling party in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He praised the NDA’s win in Bihar and said voters in the state had moved away from caste-driven politics.

He criticised Opposition leaders who did not visit the Ram Temple. He described their absence as unfortunate and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was fortunate to attend.

Ayodhya witnessed a large mobilisation during the Dhwajarohan Utsav. The Prime Minister received an energetic welcome. Crowds waved the Tricolour, BJP flags, and flags with symbols of Lord Ram. Chants of “Jai Shree Ram” filled the streets. Flower petals were showered on the convoy as it moved to the temple. The ceremony marked a moment of strong public enthusiasm.
