Jaipur: The tragic gas tanker collision on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway near Bhankrota has claimed at least 14 lives as of Saturday, with three more victims succumbing to severe burn injuries. Authorities reported that five of the deceased are yet to be identified, their bodies charred beyond recognition.
As per a report by The Hindu, the accident occurred early Friday morning when a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker attempted a U-turn on the highway, colliding with an oncoming truck. The collision sparked a massive fire, engulfing a 300-meter stretch of road and destroying nearly three dozen vehicles.
Among the injured, 14 people have sustained burns over 50% of their bodies and are currently receiving treatment at SMS Hospital in Jaipur. Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot visited the hospital to meet the victims and their families, offering support during the difficult time.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety, with experts pointing to incomplete construction and sudden road cuts as potential contributing factors. Calls for a comprehensive safety action plan have intensified in the wake of this catastrophe.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, as firefighters and rescue teams continue to assess the damage.
