Jairam Ramesh Criticizes Allocation of Parliamentary Affairs Portfolio to Kiren Rijiju

11 Jun. 24: Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh expressed dissatisfaction over the appointment of Kiren Rijiju as the new Minister of Parliamentary Affairs. In a tweet on Tuesday, Ramesh remarked that this decision “inspires no confidence whatsoever that the ek tihaai Pradhan Mantri (one-third Prime Minister) wants Parliament to function any differently than the manner in which he has run it over the past decade.”

Despite his criticism, Ramesh asserted that the INDIA Janbandhan alliance is committed to reflecting the will and mandate of the people in both Houses of Parliament effectively. Rijiju, who also oversees the Ministry of Minority Affairs, took charge of his new portfolio on Tuesday. He previously served as the cabinet minister for the Ministry of Earth Sciences and the Ministry of Food Processing. The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs was previously managed by Pralhad Joshi.

The appointment has sparked debate about the government’s approach to parliamentary proceedings. The opposition’s skepticism highlights ongoing tensions as the new minister assumes his responsibilities.
