Jaishankar Urges Diplomatic Efforts to Release Indian Crew Amid Iran-Israel Tensions

New Delhi, April 15: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke with Iran’s Foreign Minister H Amirabdollahian regarding the release of 17 Indian crew members aboard the MSC Aries cargo ship. He emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation, showing restraint, and resorting to diplomatic solutions. They agreed to stay in contact.

The MSC Aries ship, carrying 17 Indian nationals, was seized by Iran due to its association with Israeli businessman Eyal Ofer. Jaishankar promptly raised this issue with his Iranian counterpart, discussing both the crew’s release and the regional situation.

Following the seizure of the MSC Aries, India initiated diplomatic efforts to secure the release of its citizens detained in Iran.

India, along with other countries like the US, UK, and France, called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions in the conflict between Israel and Iran. They urged all parties to exercise restraint, refrain from violence, and prioritize diplomatic resolutions to restore stability in the region.
