Jalgaon Muslims Protest Against Waqf Amendment Bill

Jalgaon:  A massive demonstration against the Waqf Amendment Bill took place in Jalgaon on March 17 (Monday), with protesters chanting slogans like “Nahi Chalegi, Nahi Chalegi, Waqf Tarmeem Nahi Chalegi!”. The protest was held in solidarity with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s (AIMPLB) ongoing sit-in at Jantar Mantar, Delhi.
The demonstration, organized by Ekta Sanghatan and other local organizations, was staged in front of the District Collector’s Office from 12 PM to 1 PM. Protesters voiced their opposition to the proposed amendments, accusing the central government of attempting to undermine Waqf properties.
Following the protest, a delegation led by social activist Nigaar Sultana Sheikh Abdul Qayyum met District Collector Ayush Prasad and submitted a memorandum demanding that the 1995 and 2013 Waqf Acts remain unchanged. It also urged Members of Parliament and Rajya Sabha members to oppose the bill.
The delegation included prominent religious scholars, activists, and community leaders, who stressed that any changes to the Waqf Act would harm the Muslim community’s religious and charitable institutions.
Despite the scorching heat, a large crowd gathered, showcasing strong public sentiment against the bill.
