Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Chief Expresses Concern Over Arrest of SDPI National President

Questions Raised Over Timing and Manner of M.K. Faizy’s Arrest
New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested M.K. Faizy, the National President of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), from Delhi Airport on charges of money laundering. His sudden arrest has ignited controversy, with many viewing it as political vendetta and part of the central government’s ongoing crackdown on minorities. Several Muslim organizations and leaders have strongly condemned the move.
Among them, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) President Syed Sadatullah Husaini issued a statement expressing deep concern over Faizy’s arrest and demanding justice in line with constitutional principles.
“We strongly condemn the arrest of M.K. Faizy by the Enforcement Directorate under the anti-money laundering law. This arrest is part of a disturbing trend where religious minorities, opposition groups, and marginalized leaders are being targeted under the pretext of financial investigations to suppress political dissent,” said Husaini.
He further questioned the timing and manner of Faizy’s arrest, along with the issuance of a non-bailable warrant, calling it an oppressive rather than investigative measure.
“Meanwhile, several groups openly involved in hate speech and violent activities continue to operate without scrutiny or legal consequences. The selective application of law and discriminatory actions undermine public trust in the country’s legal and democratic institutions and raise serious concerns about the misuse of state power,” he stated.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind denounced all forms of injustice, bias, and selective targeting of individuals and organizations. Husaini emphasized that while legal action must be taken if there is concrete evidence, investigative agencies must operate fairly and without political prejudice.
“We demand a fair legal process for the SDPI National President and call for justice to be upheld in accordance with constitutional principles,” he concluded.
