New Delhi: A high-level delegation from Jamaat-e-Islami Hind visited the protest site at Jantar Mantar to support student leaders and environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk. The protest targets recent irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. The socio-religious organization expressed strong solidarity with the student movement and reform advocates demanding educational justice. JIH Vice President Professor Salim Engineer led the delegation alongside JIH Vice President Malik Moatasim Khan. National Secretary Maulana Shafi Madani and Assistant Secretary Laeeq Ahmed Khan also accompanied them to the site. The delegation conveyed JIH solidarity with everyone peacefully striving for justice, transparency, and accountability in the education system.
The leaders met Sonam Wangchuk directly at his bedside. His health has deteriorated after a prolonged fast. The delegation also met student representatives from various organizations, including the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union. During these meetings, the JIH leaders expressed deep concern over the declining health of Sonam Wangchuk and other protesters currently on a hunger strike. They noted the urgency of the situation.
Addressing the protesters, Professor Salim Engineer confirmed JIH support for the peaceful student movement. He stated the organization stands with every democratic initiative aiming to protect student rights and ensure fairness in the national education system. JIH bases its support entirely on principles of justice, constitutional rights, and public interest. He clarified their support remains independent of partisan political considerations.
The JIH leaders highlighted their active stance on the issue. JIH has raised concerns about NEET irregularities since the beginning of the controversy. They consistently support the legitimate democratic demands of the student community. The leaders emphasized peaceful protests and constitutional movements deserve encouragement and constructive engagement. They stated these movements seek accountability and require a positive, constructive response.
The organization urged the government to act with empathy and compassion toward the fasting protesters. JIH officials stated the government must initiate immediate, meaningful dialogue with student representatives and other key stakeholders. Prompt government action is necessary to address genuine concerns, resolve issues, and fulfill fair demands. JIH reiterated its commitment to supporting all lawful efforts to protect the rights and future of students. They believe constructive dialogue is the best path forward.
