NEW DELHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has voiced serious concern over the arrest of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh on charges of alleged human trafficking. The Islamic organization has described the incident as part of a growing pattern in which religious minorities are targeted and harassed.
In a statement, JIH Vice-President Prof. Salim Engineer condemned the actions, which he said reflected a disturbing trend of communal polarization and mob-driven persecution. He further accused extremist groups of deliberately stirring issues to undermine India’s secular fabric and constitutional values.
“These actions are part of a disturbing pattern aimed at harassing religious minorities and sowing discord among communities,” Prof. Salim Engineer said. “We stand in solidarity with the Christian community and demand the immediate release of the two arrested nuns and their companions.”
Prof. Salim also called for an impartial investigation into the charges, urging that justice should prevail. He emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami Hind remains committed to justice and communal harmony, consistently opposing the exploitation of minorities for political gain.
“We urge all peace-loving citizens to resist this wave of injustice and work towards fostering unity across all communities. The use of law as a tool to target minorities must end,” Prof. Salim asserted. “The government must uphold the rule of law and protect the dignity and rights of every citizen. Only through unity and justice can we preserve the pluralistic ethos of our nation.”
