New Delhi : Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the tragic loss of lives and large-scale destruction caused by the cloudburst and subsequent flash floods in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The natural disaster, which struck Dharali village, has resulted in widespread devastation—sweeping away homes, hotels, and entire settlements.
In an official statement, Prof. Salim Engineer, Vice President of JIH, described the catastrophe as a “great tragedy for all of us” and emphasized that several people are feared to be still trapped under the debris. He also highlighted the ongoing danger, citing the Meteorological Department’s warning of continued heavy rainfall, which could lead to further destruction in the coming days.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has urged both the central and state governments to act swiftly and in a coordinated manner to ensure timely rescue, relief, and rehabilitation for the affected communities. While appreciating the deployment of the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other emergency services, the organization stressed the need for accelerated and intensified efforts to trace the missing and aid those left homeless.
Prof. Salim Engineer appealed to the citizens of India to stand in solidarity with the people of Uttarkashi during this time of crisis. He also conveyed that wherever possible, members and associates of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind are ready to actively participate in the ongoing rescue and relief efforts, and work in collaboration with local authorities and civil society organizations.
