New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) President Syed Sadatullah Husaini has announced a 10-day nationwide initiative titled “Campaign for the Rights of Neighbours”, held under the theme “Ideal Neighbourhood, Ideal Society.” The campaign will run from 21 to 30 November 2025 across India, aiming to revive the spirit of goodwill, mutual care, and community bonding among neighbours.
In a media statement, the JIH President highlighted that Islam places profound emphasis on the rights of neighbours, considering it essential for building a harmonious society. He noted that the Qur’an urges believers to show kindness not only to those living nearby but also to “temporary neighbours” – colleagues, fellow travellers, and even passersby. “Through this campaign, we hope to remind Muslims of these core teachings and inspire them to become exemplary neighbours, thereby presenting Islam’s true spirit to society,” he said.
The Jamaat chief added that strong neighbourly relations naturally contribute to creating an ideal society. Acts of kindness, forgiveness, and fairness among neighbours, he said, generate a positive ripple effect that strengthens entire communities. He expressed hope that the campaign would help resolve neighbourhood disputes and highlight Islamic values of compassion and social responsibility.
Mohammed Ahmed, National Convenor of the campaign, explained that the initiative comes in response to rising individualism, particularly in urban settings, which has weakened traditional neighbourly ties. He said the campaign would promote compassion, cooperation, cleanliness, and traffic discipline as part of Islamic social ethics.
The 10-day drive will feature a wide range of activities, including interfaith neighbour meetings, tea gatherings, programmes for women and youth, cleanliness drives, awareness rallies on road rights, and cultural competitions. Special focus will be placed on engaging with non-Muslim neighbours to foster interfaith harmony and dispel misconceptions about Islam. The campaign will also introduce “Know Your Neighbour” initiatives, neighbourhood cultural events, and local committees to ensure sustained interaction and follow-up beyond the campaign period.
