Media Scholarship Program Held by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Delhi to Encourage Responsible Journalism

A Media Scholarship Program for the academic year 2025–26 was organized by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Delhi, for students pursuing studies in media and journalism. During the program, scholarships were awarded to 41 selected male and female students.

In his opening address, Mohd Irshad Alam Falahi, Assistant Media Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Delhi, explained that the purpose of the program is to encourage talented and deserving students who are studying in the field of media and journalism and to provide them with proper guidance.

An interactive session titled “Responsible Journalism and Contemporary Challenges” was also held during the program. Students participated enthusiastically and engaged actively in the discussion. On this occasion, well-known journalist Iqbal Ahmed from BBC addressed the participants and emphasized that journalism is a highly responsible profession. He said that young people entering this field must develop qualities such as patience, tolerance, and perseverance.

Iqbal Ahmed advised students to make serious efforts to find a place in mainstream media. He stressed that strong academic preparation and consistency are essential for success. He also highlighted the importance of continuous reading for journalists. According to him, students should acquire basic knowledge of subjects such as history, geography, democracy, and political systems, and make it a habit to read something daily, because knowledge and information are the real strength of a journalist.

Senior journalist and spokesperson of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, also addressed the gathering. He stated that the media is a powerful tool in shaping public opinion, therefore those entering the field must adopt honesty, truthfulness, and responsibility as their guiding principles. He added that journalism should not be viewed merely as a profession, but as a social responsibility and a trust, so that the real issues of society and the voices of marginalized communities can be properly represented.

In his concluding remarks, Saleemullah Khan, Amir Halqa of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Delhi, stated that the objective of the media scholarship is to prepare young journalists who will move forward in the field with truth and integrity and represent society accurately.

At the end of the program, Zahid Hussain, Secretary Halqa, delivered the vote of thanks. He said that the organization’s aim is not only to provide scholarships but also to offer intellectual and educational guidance to students. He encouraged them to understand social issues along with their studies and to play a positive and constructive role through media.

The event concluded with the distribution of scholarships to the selected students. A question-and-answer session between students and speakers also took place, discussing various aspects of journalism. Out of 123 applications received this year, 41 students were selected for the scholarship after interviews. The program ended with iftar and dinner.
