In a series of high-level diplomatic engagements, Jamaat e Islami Hind (JIH) has called on global institutions and governments to play an urgent, meaningful role in halting the Israeli onslaught on Gaza and supporting the Palestinian cause for justice and statehood.
A delegation led by Syed Sadatullah Husaini, National President of JIH, along with Prof. Salim Engineer, S Ameen ul Hasan (National Vice Presidents), and Dr. Rizwan Rafeeqi (Assistant National Secretary), met with Mr. Klas Nayman, Head of Political Affairs at the Delegation of the European Union to India. The delegation urged the European Union to take a strong and principled stand in support of the Palestinian people, demand an immediate ceasefire, and facilitate humanitarian relief to the besieged region.
Speaking to Radiance News after the meeting, Prof. Salim Engineer shared details of the discussion:
“The EU delegation acknowledged the gravity of the situation and assured us that their urgent priority is to bring about a ceasefire. They termed it a complex geopolitical crisis but emphasised that the EU is actively exerting diplomatic pressure on the United States to influence Israel to agree to a ceasefire.”
In a separate but coordinated move, another JIH delegation comprising Prof. Salim Engineer, Malik Motasim Khan (Vice Presidents), and Assistant Secretaries Dr. Rizwan Rafeeqi and Laeeq Ahmad Khan visited the Embassy of the Republic of The Gambia in New Delhi. The delegation met with Mr. Mustapha Jawara, High Commissioner; Mr. Ebrima Mboob, Deputy Head of Mission; and senior embassy officials.
The visit was significant as JIH became the first civil society delegation to personally thank The Gambia for its principled stance at international forums, including the International Court of Justice, where it had filed a genocide case against Israel.
“The Gambian officials were warm and appreciative. His Excellency expressed gratitude that an Indian Muslim organisation came all the way to express solidarity and thanks. For a small African country like Gambia, such gestures matter,” said Prof. Salim Engineer.
“Our message was simple: We value moral leadership, no matter how big or small the country.”
Earlier, JIH had also participated in a joint Indian Muslim delegation that met with the Jordanian Ambassador to India, Mr. Yousef Mustafa Ali Abdel Ghani, urging Jordan to amplify its regional and international role in alleviating the Gaza tragedy. This meeting was also covered by Radiance News.
Across all these engagements, JIH emphasised the urgent need to:
• Publicly condemn Israel’s war crimes
• Open humanitarian corridors to Gaza
• Push for a lasting ceasefire
• Stand up for Palestinian sovereignty
These meetings reflect JIH’s increasing engagement in international advocacy, where it is calling on governments and multilateral institutions to uphold principles of justice, human rights, and international law. By raising concerns through diplomatic channels, JIH’s leadership is positioning the organisation as an active civil society voice on global humanitarian issues, particularly in the context of the Gaza crisis.
