New Delhi: Jamia Hamdard celebrated a major academic milestone as more than 7,200 students were awarded degrees during its 15th Convocation Ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan on April 16.
The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering of Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Councils, Vice Chancellors, senior bureaucrats, academicians, scientists, business leaders, diplomats, and members of the university’s Executive Council and Academic Council.
According to Controller of Examinations Syed Saud Akhtar, a total of 7,202 students received undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. degrees. In addition, 109 postgraduate students from the Centre for Distance and Online Education also graduated. The university awarded 250 gold medals to meritorious students in recognition of their academic excellence.
During the ceremony, K. P. Hussain was conferred the degree of Doctor of Sciences (Honoris Causa) for his contributions to medicine, healthcare innovation, and philanthropy.
The convocation was presided over by Chancellor Hammad Ahmed. In his address, Vice Chancellor M. Afshar Alam highlighted the university’s growing academic and research profile, along with its performance in the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2025 rankings.
He noted that Jamia Hamdard secured the top position in Pharmacy, ranked 40th in the Medical category, 87th in Management, 47th among universities, and 74th overall. The university’s Pharmacy and Pharmacology programme was also ranked 59th globally in the 2026 QS World Subject Rankings.
Prof. Alam further said that faculty members had secured major research grants from agencies such as Department of Science and Technology, Indian Council of Medical Research, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, University Grants Commission, and Defence Research and Development Organisation, along with support from industry partners, including Sun Pharma, Dabur Research Foundation, and Jubilant Life Sciences.
He also highlighted the establishment of a state-of-the-art 5G Use Case Laboratory at the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology, along with the university’s focus on infrastructure modernisation, digital transformation, and implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.
Registrar Tahir Mustafa said the convocation celebrated academic excellence and reflected the university’s continued commitment to quality education, research innovation, and nation-building. He expressed confidence that the graduating students would make meaningful contributions across various sectors.
The convocation concluded with the National Anthem.
