Jamia Hamdard Celebrates 77th Republic Day with Patriotic Zeal

New Delhi: Jamia Hamdard (a Government Aided Deemed to be University) celebrated the 77th Republic Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at the Hamdard Convention Centre here. The celebrations commenced at 10:00 a.m. with the unfurling of the National Flag by Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

The ceremony was graced by a distinguished gathering that included Col. Tahir Mustafa, Registrar; Mr. S.S. Akhtar, Controller of Examinations; Mrs. Hena Parveen; DSW; Deans of Schools; Dean (Academics); Director (CDOE); Chief Proctor; Heads of Departments; Deputy Registrar; Provost; NSS Coordinator; Lt. (Dr.) Mohd. Ashif Khan; Lt. Maihnaz Bi; Executive Engineer (Officiating); officials, faculty members, staff, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and students.

Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, along with the First Lady of the University, Mrs. Hena Parveen, received a Guard of Honour presented by the 3rd and 4th Delhi Battalions of NCC (Boys and Girls) and the university security personnel. The programme featured vibrant patriotic performances, including melodious patriotic songs by the cultural team led by Prof. Khursheed Ahmad Ansari, Cultural Coordinator, and an impactful skit performed by NCC cadets. Certificates of participation were awarded to the best performers in the cultural activities by the Vice-Chancellor and Mrs. Hena Parveen. In addition, the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar also felicitated the university’s security personnel in appreciation of their dedicated service throughout the year.

In his keynote address, Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam highlighted the significance of Republic Day and underscored the enduring values enshrined in the Indian Constitution. He also shared the university’s notable achievements and future vision, reaffirming Jamia Hamdard’s commitment to academic excellence. He proudly announced that Jamia Hamdard retained the 1st position in the Pharmacy category in India in the NIRF Rankings 2025. He further noted that Jamia Hamdard has been ranked No.1 for seven years since the NIRF ranking commenced in 2016 and has remained among the top 50 institutions in the country.

Prof. Alam further informed that in the second week of December 2025, Jamia Hamdard signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gyan Bharatam, a flagship programme of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The initiative aims to strengthen national efforts in the preservation, conservation, digitisation, translation, and research of India’s manuscript heritage. Under this MoU, Jamia Hamdard has been designated as a Cluster Centre, entrusted with leading manuscript-related activities for its own collections and coordinating and supervising up to 20 Cluster Partner Centres across the country. He also mentioned that the university has entered into several other MoUs to further enhance its academic and research activities. Additionally, he shared that Jamia Hamdard is in the process of establishing an offshore campus in the UAE, and the preliminary work has already started.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed his sincere gratitude to Janab Hammad Ahmed Saheb, Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, and Mr. Sajid Ahmed Saheb, CEO, Hamdard National Foundation–HECA, for their continued financial support, encouragement, and guidance in taking the institution to greater heights.

He also personally acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the Registrar, Dean of Students’ Welfare, Deputy Registrar, and the entire administrative team for the successful organisation of the event. The celebrations concluded with the distribution of sweets among members of the Jamia Hamdard fraternity, marking a joyous and memorable Republic Day celebration.
