Jamia Hamdard Organises One-Day Seminar on World Heart Day 2025

New Delhi: The Department of Paramedical Sciences, School of Allied Health Sciences & Research, Jamia Hamdard, organised a one-day seminar on the occasion of World Heart Day here Monday. The event was held under this year’s global theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat,” with the aim of promoting awareness about cardiovascular health and the importance of preventive care.

The seminar was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. (Dr.) M. Khalilullah, a renowned cardiologist and recipient of the prestigious Padma Bhushan award, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Dr. Khalilullah highlighted the growing burden of cardiovascular diseases in India and stressed the importance of lifestyle modifications, early diagnosis, and community-based preventive strategies.

The programme commenced with welcome address by Prof. Khursheed Ahmad Ansari, Head of the Department of Paramedical Sciences, who emphasised the significance of World Heart Day and reiterated the department’s commitment to advancing health education and community awareness initiatives.

Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, also addressed the gathering, commending the department for its proactive efforts in organising such an impactful event. He encouraged students and faculty members to translate their academic knowledge into practical efforts for promoting heart health in society.

Ms. Hena Parveen, educationist and dedicated social worker, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. She delivered an inspiring talk on the importance of preventive healthcare and the crucial role of community awareness, particularly among the youth.

The seminar featured insightful sessions by eminent keynote speakers, including Dr. Varsha Koul, Senior Consultant, Cardiology, Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre, New Delhi; Dr. Anil Yadav, Associate Consultant, Cardiology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi; Dr. Kadiri Sara, Interventional Cardiologist, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Rabat, Morocco & Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi; and Dr. Ashar Imam, Faculty of Anatomy, Jamia Hamdard.

These experts delivered informative talks on various aspects of cardiac care, including lifestyle interventions, advances in treatment modalities, and the role of preventive cardiology. Their sessions were highly engaging and left a lasting impact on both students and faculty.

In the afternoon session, students of Jamia Hamdard showcased innovative models and informative posters, followed by a prize distribution ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions. The student performances and participation were highly commendable.

To further promote public health awareness, the event concluded with a Health Walk, symbolising a collective step towards wellness and heart health. Simultaneously, a Health Camp was organised, offering free services including abdominal check-ups, BMI assessment, blood pressure monitoring, pulse and oxygen saturation evaluation, and blood sugar testing.

The day-long seminar was a holistic blend of academic enrichment, community outreach, and cultural engagement, making it a highly memorable and successful event.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Gulafsha, Faculty of Cardiology, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor, Guest of Honour, distinguished speakers, faculty members, and students for their valuable contributions and enthusiastic participation.

The seminar witnessed active involvement from all stakeholders, reinforcing the importance of heart health under the meaningful theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat.”
