Jamia Hamdard organizes Sports and Cultural Week with full fervour and zeal

New Delhi, Feb. 28: The sports and cultural week of Jamia Hamdard was hosted in the university campus from February 19 till February 26, 2024 at the university sports grounds and various indoor venues. This year the celebrations were held with great pomp to suit the occasion.

The event was inaugurated on the bright and sunny morning of February 19 by the Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam and Mr. Sajid Ahmed, CEO and Secretary, Hamdard National Foundation (HECA).

DSW Prof. Dr. Reshma Nasreen welcomed the huge gathering of students, faculty members and distinguished guests. An eight days affair having literary and cultural, musical and creative events and competitions along with sports activities was welcomed by students. The participating players were encouraged and cheered throughout the matches. The students showcased a great sense of discipline and mastery of skill achieved through months of hard work. The spirit of sportsmanship was in the air. The atmosphere of the university was one of festivity and jubilance.

Keeping in mind the magnitude of various events and the number of participations, the valedictory ceremony was divided into two parts. On February 25, the first valedictory ceremony was held to felicitate the winners and participants of the sports events.

The Chief Guest for the evening was Shri B. Shankar Jaiswal, Joint Commissioner, Delhi Police. The Guest of Honour was Mr. Sajid Ahmed, CEO and Secretary HECA. The evening was lit up by the performances of singer, composer and lyricist Mr. Kabul Bukhari and standup comedian Mr. Haseeb Khan.

The function was presided over by the Chancellor Mr. Hammad Ahmed and co-presided by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Afshar Alam. The second part of the valedictory function was held on February 26 for the winners and participants of the cultural events. The live performance of the evening was graced by Mr. Salman Ali, winner of Indian Idol 10th season of Indian Idol. The Chief Guest was Mr. Danish Ashraf, IAS, Special Secretary, (H&FW) GNCT of Delhi.

The culmination of the Day witnessed loud cheers during the prize distribution ceremony as it comprised of more than 400 awards distributed among different schools of the university at the hands of renowned guests and university officials. A total of 200 students were felicitated for cultural events and more than 200 for sports events. HNF-(HECA), in its patronage of Sports and Culture, fully sponsored all the events. The event ended with a Vote of Thanks by the DSW who chairs the Sports and Cultural Committee and various departments and personally guided the students in their preparation. The evening came to an end on a high note with a look of accomplishment and pride on the faces of the students.

A large number of students, faculty members along with distinguished dignitaries Shri B. Shankar Jaiswal, Joint Commissioner, Delhi Police, Mr. Sajid Ahmed, CEO and Secretary, HNF – (HECA), Dr. M. A. Sikandar, Registrar, Mr. S. S. Akhtar, Controller of Examinations, Prof. Sarwar Alam, Chief Proctor, Dr. Uzma Bano, Deputy DSW, Dr. Khursheed A. Ansari, Cultural Co-coordinator, Dr. Jawed Ahmed, NSS Co-coordinator and Dr. Sohrab Ahmed Khan, Sports Secretary graced the occasion.
