Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Madani Visits Assam Relief Camps, Condemns Evictions

Guwahati: Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani led a high-level delegation to Assam to meet families displaced by recent eviction drives. The team visited several relief camps, including those in Betbari and Baitbari, where hundreds of people are taking shelter after bulldozer demolitions left them homeless.

The delegation, which traveled nearly 300 kilometers across affected areas, interacted with victims and listened to their concerns. Maulana Madani assured them that Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind will continue to stand by the oppressed.

“Our fight is not against the removal of encroachments,” Madani said. “It is against the inhuman process that ignores court orders and uses threats, fear, and force to make people homeless. Such actions violate justice and humanity.” He emphasized that the Jamiat’s struggle has always been rooted in the tradition of supporting the oppressed, even at the cost of great sacrifice.

The Assam government has intensified eviction drives across the state, reclaiming about 182 square kilometers of land. Reports indicate that over 50,000 people have been displaced. The Jamiat delegation, which included senior leaders from Bihar, Kishanganj, Kokrajhar, and other regions, pledged to provide relief and legal support to the affected families.

Madani reiterated that the issue is not land recovery but the violation of due process and human rights. He affirmed that the organization will continue to extend both solidarity and practical assistance to those suffering from forced evictions.
