Jharkhand: Elderly Man Stripped and Dragged Behind Motorcycle on Suspicion of Cow Smuggling

Garhwa, May 20: A 60-year-old man was allegedly stripped and dragged while tied to a motorcycle by three individuals on suspicion of cow smuggling in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district, police reported on Sunday.

The incident occurred near Amrora village, about 275 km from the state capital, Ranchi, as the man, identified as Surswati Ram, was transporting his cattle to Banshidhar Nagar Untari on Friday afternoon.

Banshidhar Nagar Untari Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Satyendra Narayan Singh confirmed that an FIR has been lodged. According to the FIR, three individuals identified as Rahul Dubey, Rajesh Dubey, and Kashinath Bhuiyan intercepted Ram, accusing him of cow smuggling. They allegedly stripped him, tied him to their motorcycle, and dragged him for some distance before leaving him on the road.

The elderly man was subsequently taken to Banshidhar Nagar Untari Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. Singh noted that while Kashinath Bhuiyan has been arrested, a search operation is underway to apprehend the other two accused.

The incident has sparked outrage and highlights ongoing tensions and vigilantism related to cow smuggling accusations in the region. Authorities are urged to ensure swift justice and prevent such occurrences in the future.
