The JIH Central Advisory Council appealed to the people to elect morally sound people, uphold democratic values, and promote communal harmony in national and state elections.
New Delhi, Nov. 30: The Markazi Majlis-e-Shoora (Central Advisory Council) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind met in Ahmedabad from 24 to 26 November and came out with resolutions on the recent developments within the country and internationally.
On the war unleashed by Israel on Gaza, the JIH Shoora felt that “the Israeli oppression of Palestine reached its worst level of violation of human rights in contravention of all the international laws of war. The genocidal killing of common and unarmed citizens, especially innocent children and women, indiscriminate bombing of common urban facilities like hospitals and schools, and other such brutal actions demand that the Israeli Prime Minister be tried in the International Criminal Court.”
Coming down heavily on Zionists, America, and some European countries, the JIH Central Shoora demanded the international community and the United Nations implement a permanent ceasefire by imposing sanctions on Israel.
The JIH Shoora also demanded reconstruction of the areas destroyed by Israel and effective steps in ensuring the provision of essential supplies. The Council expressed satisfaction at the support received by the Palestinians from India and around the globe and demanded the Government of India play an effective role in the establishment of a Palestinian state through international diplomatic efforts while adhering to the country’s long-standing position on Palestine.
The JIH Shoora felt that the irresponsible coverage by a section of the media was causing communal disharmony and Islamophobia in the country. It expressed its solidarity with the victims of Palestine and offered prayers for them.
The JIH Council also expressed concern over the dominance of capitalists, criminals, and communal and fascist powers in the politics of our country. “Disrespectful comments by political leaders, lying, and excessive use of money, false promises to woo voters, and character assassination of political adversaries are unfortunately becoming important tools of conducting an election campaign,” lamented the Council.
It also felt that the current opaque system of electoral bonds for election funding was causing an abnormal increase in the coffers of the ruling party and this imbalance is weakening democracy in the country. The Council also appealed to the people to elect morally sound people, uphold democratic values, and promote communal harmony in national and state elections.
JIH Central Advisory Council raised the issue of the misuse of autonomous government institutions of the country, for political purposes especially the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), ED (Enforcement Directorate), Income Tax Department, police administration, bureaucracy, and Offices of Governors to various states. The Council demanded the government to shun the political use of bureaucracy and restore the former dignity and autonomy of these venerable government institutions. The JIH Shoora felt that a strong opposition and freedom for constructive criticism of the government are an important necessity for a stable democracy.
