JIH Coimbatore Appeals for Infrastructure Development in Minority Schools and Healthcare Facilities

Coimbatore: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Coimbatore City has formally appealed to the Tamil Nadu State Minorities Commission, led by Chairman Father Joe Arun, for urgent infrastructure upgrades and basic amenities in minority education and healthcare institutions. The organisation has submitted requests on three critical issues affecting the education and health sectors in areas with significant minority populations.

JIH Coimbatore highlighted the pressing need for improved infrastructure at the Kottaimedu Municipal Middle School, which currently serves 809 students, including 300 girls. Due to inadequate facilities, students experience overcrowded classrooms, making learning difficult. The appeal calls for additional classrooms, sanitation facilities, clean drinking water, and enhanced sports infrastructure under the Prime Minister’s Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) scheme. Furthermore, JIH requested that the school be upgraded to a high school to meet the growing demand, along with appointing more qualified teachers.

In a separate petition, JIH Coimbatore urged the Commission to fully operationalize the Ukkadam Primary Health Center. Located in an area housing around 80,000 residents, the center currently lacks full-time doctors and nurses, and its facilities are limited. Due to this, local residents often travel to distant hospitals to meet their medical needs. JIH requested that the health center, currently also used for municipal purposes, be equipped with round-the-clock staff, basic facilities like maternity care, and improved infrastructure under the PMJVK scheme to meet the community’s healthcare needs.

Lastly, JIH has requested that the Karumbukkadai Municipal Primary School, which has served the community for over 50 years and now educates around 300 students, be upgraded to a high school. They emphasized that upgrading the school under PMJVK would enable better educational access for the area’s significant population, which largely consists of working-class families.

The appeals, signed by JIH Coimbatore Secretary M.A. Hakky, reflect the organisation’s continued efforts to address the pressing needs of minority communities in Coimbatore. Copies of these appeals were also forwarded to J. Muhammad Rafi, a member of the Tamil Nadu State Minorities Commission, for additional support.

JIH Coimbatore has expressed its hope that the authorities will consider these requests seriously, ensuring better educational and healthcare facilities for the minority populations of Coimbatore.
