On Thursday, around 4:30 pm, students from New Sunrise School in the Panigat area went to Harani Lake for a picnic. The boat carrying Sunrise students on the trip capsized, with reports indicating that 27 people, including 4 teachers and 23 students, were on board, surpassing its seating capacity of 16 persons. Most people were not wearing lifejackets, leading to this tragic incident, according to preliminary reports.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Gujarat demanded an impartial inquiry into this incident and take strict action against all those responsible for gross negligence.
Speaking to Radiance, Arshad Hussain Shaikh, Media Secretary, JIH Gujarat, said JIH Gujarat condoled the death of innocent students and teachers in the heartbreaking incident and demanded strict action against those responsible for the tragedy. JIH Gujarat also shared their condolences on X.
Students and their teachers on a school trip tragically lost their lives after their boat capsized in Vadodara’s Harni Lake.
JIH Gujarat expressed profound sorrow over this extremely painful incident. At this hour of grief, they offered condolences to the families of the deceased and injured, praying that Allah forgive the departed souls. They also wish strength and patience for the relatives to bear the pain and a speedy recovery for all the injured.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel of Gujarat resorted to X to express his sadness and sympathies. “We are devastated by the drowning of youngsters when the boat capsized in Vadodara’s Harni Lake. I pray for peace in the spirits of the innocent children that died. My heartfelt condolences to their families,” he said, urging the government to offer quick assistance and care to the surviving.
Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expresses his condolences on X: “Distressed by the loss of lives due to a boat capsizing at Harni Lake in Vadodara, my thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected.
“An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs from PMNRF will be given to the next of kin of each deceased person. The injured will receive Rs. 50,000, confirms PM @narendramodi.”
