JIH Karnataka Voices Concern over Pressing Issues

The Majlis-e-Shura (Advisory Council) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Karnataka, during its session held on May 12, 2025, adopted the following resolutions on the situations prevailing in the State of Karnataka, the nation as a whole and in Palestine. The text of the resolutions is as follows:

Situation in Karnataka
The Shura expresses satisfaction over the relatively improved social climate in the state. Communal and caste-based tensions are comparatively low, and in this regard, the role of the government and administration is commendable. The contributions of various religious leaders and community elders in maintaining harmony are also appreciated.

However, the moral fabric of society continues to deteriorate due to the spread of corruption, growing instances of violence against women, and increasing addiction to interest-based dealings, alcohol, and other intoxicants. These factors have led to a steady rise in crimes and societal oppression. There is a pressing need for greater attention to be paid by both the government and religious institutions towards reformative measures, particularly in the field of education and moral training. Material progress without spiritual and ethical upliftment is hollow and ultimately fruitless.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has consistently worked towards moral reform and remains committed to it. The Shura urges the government and relevant institutions to undertake concrete and effective measures on this front, and assures full cooperation in such efforts. Simultaneously, it warns against the continuous attempts by communal forces to disrupt the social fabric, emphasising the urgent need to keep such elements in check.

National Affairs
The Shura notes with relief that the conflict between India and Pakistan, sparked by the recent incident in Pahalgam, has de-escalated swiftly.

It extends heartfelt condolences to the victims of this tragic event and commends their measured and composed response, even during their moment of profound grief. While they rightfully expressed concerns over lapses in the security of their loved ones, they also acknowledged and appreciated the bravery of those Kashmiris who risked their lives to come to the aid of the victims.

The Shura holds this humane and conscientious response in high regard. Nonetheless, it raises serious concerns over the fact that such an incident occurred despite the presence of strong national security forces, a robust police mechanism, and advanced intelligence networks. This necessitates a thorough and transparent inquiry to identify any lapses and ensure strict legal action against those responsible.

Furthermore, the Shura lauds the voices raised across the country in defence of Kashmiri citizens and Muslims at large, who were unfairly targeted in the aftermath of the tragedy. These voices represent the true essence of humanity. The eerie silence of those in power, however, is deeply concerning. The irresponsible conduct of some media outlets has also been troubling.

The Shura reminds both government officials and media personnel that maintaining internal peace and public order is as vital as securing our borders. At such critical times, leadership must rise to the occasion and prioritise the stability and safety of the nation.

Waqf Amendment Law
The Waqf (Amendment) Act recently passed in Parliament represents a clear violation of the Indian Constitution. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board and many justice-loving citizens across the country have strongly opposed this legislation before the Joint Parliamentary Committee, presenting well-reasoned arguments.

Even in Parliament, a significant number of respected members, especially from the Opposition, articulated their concerns and objections, pointing out the unconstitutionality of the bill. Yet, the ruling party pushed it through by sheer numerical strength.

An alarming aspect of this legislation is that it is being used to foster an atmosphere of hatred and division. The Shura demands that this law be repealed immediately.

In a country already burdened with numerous pressing issues, the addition of another divisive law serves no public interest. The Shura fully supports the nationwide campaign led by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board against this unjust law.

The Palestine Issue
The ongoing Israeli aggression in Palestine, now persisting for over a year and a half, represents a blatant violation of justice, humanity, and international law. The silence of global institutions and the inaction of Muslim nations is a deeply shameful chapter in modern history. However, the Shura welcomes the growing resistance to Zionist atrocities from within the West and even from within Israel itself.

A large segment of scholars, university faculty, and students have taken a principled stand against this oppression. Yet, the retaliatory actions by certain governments seeking to suppress these voices are utterly condemnable.

This Shura calls upon the Government of India to take a principled stand against the atrocities being committed in Palestine and to use its diplomatic channels accordingly, in line with the nation’s long-standing foreign policy.

It also urges Muslim countries to rise above political expediencies and extend tangible support to their helpless Palestinian brethren. The Shura salutes the courageous people of Palestine who, despite having no resources and facing unbearable hardships, continue to stand firm in their resistance against a far stronger enemy. Even after enduring the martyrdom of countless loved ones – especially women and children – their resolve remains unshaken.
