JIH Maharashtra, President Calls for Collective Action Against Drug Abuse

Mumbai, June 26:  On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Maulana Ilyas Khan Falahi, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Maharashtra, has issued a fervent call to action to combat the growing menace of drug abuse that is ravaging our society, especially among the youth.

Maulana Ilyas Khan Falahi, in a statement, emphasized the critical role that educational institutions must play in addressing this issue.

He stated, “Educational institutions need to focus on the problem of drug abuse. They must incorporate comprehensive awareness programs that educate children and youth about the dangers of drug addiction, which often begins at a young age. Our children and youth are falling prey to drug addiction at an alarmingly young age. This is a crisis that requires immediate and sustained intervention from all sectors of society.”

The JIH Maharashtra chief called on the police to intensify their efforts in cracking down on drug trafficking and distribution networks.

“The role of the police is crucial in this battle. They must be vigilant and proactive in their efforts to dismantle the networks that supply drugs to our communities,” he asserted.

He also highlighted the indispensable role of parents in preventing drug abuse.

“Parents must remain vigilant and engaged in their children’s lives. Open communication, education about the dangers of drugs, and providing a supportive home environment are essential in preventing our children from falling into the trap of addiction,” Maulana Falahi advised.

Furthermore, the JIH Maharashtra President called upon Islamic scholars, Imams of mosques, social workers, intellectuals, and the media to actively pursue a social movement against drug abuse. “Islamic scholars and Imams have a vital role in raising awareness and educating the community. Social workers and intellectuals must work together to create a robust support system, and the media must continue to highlight the severity of this issue and promote positive messages,” he said.

He stressed that merely celebrating days such as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is not sufficient.

“While it is important to mark this day, what we need is continuous, concerted action. We must all come together to create a strong, united front against the scourge of drug abuse. It is only through collective, sustained efforts that we can hope to eradicate this menace from our society,” Maulana Ilyas Khan Falahi concluded.
