Mumbai, Jan. 24: The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Maharashtra Maulana Ilyas Khan Falahi has voiced concern over the communal incidents in Mira Bhayander and subsequent demolitions in Hyderi Chowk, Mira Road.
In a statement on Wednesday, JIH Maharashtra President said, they were “highly concerned” over the communal incidents that took place on Mira Road here. Reports show that the trouble started when some anti-social elements tried to foment trouble on Sunday night, shouting provocative slogans in an attempt to incite violence and disrupt communal harmony. Subsequently, some politicians tried to inflame the situation through their social media posts.
“The police must immediately take action against such people and ensure that the instigators and masterminds of the violence are arrested,” he said.
Maulana Ilyas Falahi further said, “Jamaat-e-Islami Hind is also concerned about how the Bhayander Municipal Corporation used bulldozers on Tuesday afternoon to demolish about 15 structures in the Haidary Chowk area in Mira Road. The demolitions appear to be targeted against a specific community. It is vendetta politics and goes against the spirit of equality and justice enshrined in our Constitution. It sends a wrong message to the people of our country, creates more unrest among them, and reduces their confidence in the impartiality of the government.”
The JIH Maharashtra President added, “Just a few days back, we had issued an appeal to the people of Maharashtra to maintain communal harmony on 22 January and requested the police and administration to maintain law and order. Our state is known to be developed and progressive, and the people like to live in peace and communal amity. Some people are trying to disrupt the peaceful climate and misuse religion to polarize society and get electoral benefits.
He said his organization has appealed to the people of the state “to recognize the need for maintaining communal harmony and unite to ensure that peace is always maintained and remains our top-most priority.”
