Lucknow, December 15: Highlighting the critical role of Muslims in fostering unity and addressing societal challenges, Syed Sadatullah Husaini, Ameer (President) Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, urged Muslims to embrace their mission of ensuring humanity’s welfare. Speaking at a public gathering on “The Current National Scenario and the Role of the Muslim Community,” jointly organised by JIH Lucknow City and Muslim Welfare Society at Jama Masjid Munshi Pulia here Sunday, he emphasised the need for a positive outlook amid adversities.
In his address, Husaini stated that discussions about the country’s current state often revolve around injustices and oppression faced by Muslims. However, he cautioned against viewing the situation solely from a negative perspective.
“This nation’s challenges also offer immense opportunities for us to act as a guiding force for humanity,” he remarked. He reiterated that the Muslim community’s mission transcends its internal boundaries, as it has been divinely tasked to work for the welfare of all people.
Pointing to the rapid progress India is making in technology and economics, the Jamaat chief expressed concern over the growing cultural and moral crisis.
“Our nation is grappling with division and hatred fuelled by those in power,” he said. “When leaders promote division on the basis of caste and religion, the country faces a civilizational decline. It is in such times that the Muslim Ummah must rise to the occasion and work to save society from this crisis.”
He urged the audience to see adversities as opportunities to strengthen their resolve and align their actions with the teachings of the Qur’an and Hadith.
Quoting the Qur’anic verse, “Indeed, with hardship comes ease,” he encouraged the community to remain hopeful and proactive.
The Jamaat leader outlined a three-point action plan for the Muslim community to address the current challenges:
Reviving a Sense of Purpose: He stressed the need to rekindle the community’s mission of promoting justice and equality for all, urging Muslims to move beyond self-interest and work for the collective good of humanity.
Correcting Misconceptions: Husaini pointed out that while Islamophobia and misinformation are rampant, there is also an increased curiosity about Islam. He called on Muslims to seize this opportunity to share Islam’s teachings on social justice, equality, and human rights, while actively countering misinformation.
Empowering the Community: He emphasised the importance of economic, educational, and entrepreneurial empowerment to strengthen the Muslim community. By doing so, Muslims can become a self-reliant and influential force in shaping the nation’s future.
The JIH President noted that the problems facing Indian Muslims cannot be resolved with short-term solutions. “We must prepare for sustained and long-term efforts, with patience and determination,” he said. He added that while hatred and misinformation are being spread against Muslims, avenues for constructive engagement remain open.
Earlier, Dr. Raziul Islam Nadwi, JIH National Secretary, explained Verse 78 of Surah Al-Hajj, emphasising the holistic nature of Islam and the responsibilities of Muslims. He reminded the audience that being a Muslim is not just a label but a duty to live in complete submission to Allah and work for the betterment of society.
The programme was moderated by Dr. Amjad Saeed Falahi, City Nazim, while Qazi Ahmed Raza, President of the Muslim Welfare Society, extended a vote of thanks. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of men and women.
