8 June 2024: Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), delivered a firm message following the Lok Sabha election results, urging all political parties, including the BJP, to reflect on the public mandate against hate politics, divisive agendas, and the misuse of government resources.
Addressing a press conference at the JIH headquarters in New Delhi, Husaini called for a departure from the politics of hate, communalism, and caste divisions. He specifically urged NDA partners, such as JD(U) and TDP, to adhere to inclusive principles outlined in their manifestos and resist any divisive agendas from the ruling party.
Congratulating the Indian electorate for their active participation in the electoral process, Husaini emphasized the public’s desire for unity, peace, and harmony.
Responding to questions regarding communal polarization and minority targeting during the election campaign, Husaini reassured minorities, especially Muslims, that divisive politics would not persist in India for long.
Regarding the low representation of Muslims in the current parliament, JIH Vice President Malik Moatasim Khan stressed the importance of quality over quantity in parliamentary representation.
While expressing disappointment over weak opposition performances, Husaini urged secular parties to address public concerns effectively, emphasizing issues of hate speech and minority targeting.
Reflecting on the election outcome, Husaini criticized divisive rhetoric during the campaign, commending voters for rejecting such tactics. He emphasized voters’ preference for a sincere developmental agenda and denounced prioritization of corporate interests over societal welfare.
Addressing ruling party MPs, Husaini called for introspection, transparency, and a commitment to India’s diverse and multicultural society.
He urged the new government to end the misuse of state machinery against political opponents, emphasizing the erosion of democratic principles.
Acknowledging the responsibility of NDA partners, Husaini urged them to promote unity and inclusivity while resisting divisive agendas.
He praised civil society’s role in the election and called on citizens to remain vigilant against hate politics and misuse of democratic institutions.
As India enters a new political era, Husaini reminded all stakeholders of the importance of upholding constitutional values to ensure a vibrant and inclusive democracy.
The press conference also featured addresses from JIH Vice Presidents Malik Motsim Khan and Professor Salim Engineer, with the program conducted by Jamaat’s Media Assistant Secretary Salman Ahmed.
