Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, has offered condolences to the demise of former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
In a statement Mr. Husaini said, “We offer heartfelt condolences at the demise of former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh. He was the architect of India’s economic transformation as well as introducing revolutionary reforms such as the Right to Information, Right to Education, Right to Food and Right to Work. Despite his pro-market policies, he also pioneered many pro-poor welfare schemes such as MNREGA, restructuring of the PDS and extension of midday meal scheme. Dr Singh was extremely polite, humble, and never boasted about his great academic and professional achievements.
“Dr Singh was a true secular leader who cared about the rights of the marginalised and the religious minorities. The Justice Sachar Committee was constituted during his tenure that delivered its landmark report on the socio-economic status of the Muslim community in India.
“Politicians today need, more than ever, the qualities like honesty in public life, respect for the institutions, humility and politeness, inclusiveness and ability to take all sections together and bring consensus. In this backdrop, we hope his (Dr. Manmohan Singh’s) legacy will keep inspiring and guiding us. He will continue to inspire millions with his honesty, integrity, dedication and great love for the people of our country irrespective of their caste and creed.”
